Octavius Brooks Frothingham was an American clergyman and author. Born in Boston and educated at Harvard, he began as a Unitarian pastor, although his congregation evolved into the Independent Liberal Church. He was a renowned speaker, and author of numerous religious and secular works. Often controversial, often radical, he was an active abolitionist and early supporter of Darwin. William Henry Channing, Unitarian minister and reformer, was born in Boston, Mass. He was the editor of The western messenger, 1838-1839, spent time at Brook Farm, wrote a memoir of his uncle, William Ellery Channing (1848), and with Ralph Waldo Emerson and James Freeman Clarke, wrote a memoir of Margaret Fuller (1852).
